Connect the numbers in order and a picture appears. The numbers are the same ones used around the world, so no Japanese is needed. Choose by how far your child can count: 1–5, 1–10, 1–20 or 1–30.
The Japanese on the sheet
The last number changes with each sheet (5, 10, 20 or 30). The ● marks where to start and the ★ marks the end.
At the top of every sheet there are three small boxes. They are just for writing the date and name — you can leave them empty.

Count in Japanese
Say each number out loud as you connect the dots. It’s an easy first step into Japanese.
After 10, numbers are built like building blocks: 11 = jū-ichi (10 + 1), 20 = ni-jū (2 × 10), 30 = san-jū (3 × 10). 4 can also be “shi,” and 7 can also be “shichi.”

Some pictures also have a free on-screen version — look for the green ▶ Play on screen button. The menus are in Japanese, but kids play by tapping and tracing, so no reading is needed.
Printing tips
- The PDFs are A4 size (the standard paper in Japan). On US Letter paper, choose “Fit to page” (or “Scale to fit”) in the print window so nothing gets cut off.
- Living in Japan without a printer? Convenience stores (7-Eleven, Lawson, FamilyMart) can print PDFs from your phone.
